A Great and very knowledgeable doctor!!!
Dr. Tan has been my doctor for about 15 years and is very instrumental in my being alive. Although I had been diagnosed with advanced stage 4 cancer and most of my other doctors didn’t expect me to live - Dr. Tan never gave up! Although God Almighty had the final say, Dr. Valiant Tan and Dr. Louis Carideo (my internist then) we’re the only two who relentlessly pursued my recovery. It has been a long road with lots of setbacks, but Dr. Tan, along with his primary nurse, Amy Gannon, have worked with me tirelessly to insure the best total recovery for me during these years. I don’t know what others say or think about Virginia Oncology’s Dr. Valiant Tan, but to me and my wife, he is outstanding!

Great team
I meet with Dr. Tan and Amy every three months and discuss my results and current physical condition. Each time we have a discussion on the path forward, my thoughts and theirs. Early on the medication worked well and through discussions and observations were were able to reduce the milligrams and it worked. I follow my results on the patient portal so I am informed to discuss them with Amy and Dr. Tan. Last appointment the office was extremely full, but the front desk, nurses and Dr. Tan and Amy were right on top of everything and I got out of there really quickly. I was very impressed.

Dr. Tan is Competent, Caring, and is an excellent Communicator. A Cancer Patient should be compassionately, fully informed about his/her disease, and Dr. Tan clearly understands that; it is obviously an inherent part of his nature Contrast that with his Med. Asst. (I believe her name is Cherie Dixon.) I am so use to my Doctors' Med. Assts. being pleasant and compassionate. I have seen Dr. T twice. Both times the Med. Asst. was curt, concerned about saving a minute, hardly spent a moment with face to face contact, barked out her 'few words as possible orders,' and even got my weight wrong last visit. This is a prime example of someone in the Health Care profession who does not understand the elementary, but critical importance of the requirement for warmth and compassion in dealing with Cancer Patients, some of whom may be facing death. Sorry for the truthful negativity. Do not let that take away from my gratitude and good fortune in having such a wonderful Dr. as Dr. Tan.

I am always pleased with my visit. Dr. Valiant Tann is one of a kind. He takes time with you. He has been my sister's doctor since 1999. We just love his mannerism a d him. Since he has been my doctor, I've recommended several friends and family members. Everyone in the office is so pleasant and helpful.

Great first visit!
It was my 1st visit with Dr. Tan. I was transfered to him after Dr. Paul Conkling, my 1st oncologist, retired. Dr. Tan was very friendly, professional and thorough. He answered all my questions satisfactorily. His physical exam was thorough. I felt comfortable with his bedside manners. I am pleased that he is now my oncologist!

I had my appointment with Dr Tan today and he was so patient, listened to what I had to say, then took the time to explain everything I needed and wanted to know. Having come from another oncologist, I have to say that I’m so glad that I made the decision to switch. I would highly recommend Dr Tan to those that have other sad things going on in their lives (loss of my child, in my case), besides cancer.
