Dr. Smith's Care Philosophy

As a Fellowship Trained Orthopedic Spine Surgeon, I believe we have a clear obligation to provide patients with as much information about their care as we can. Informed patients simply make better decisions about treatment options. I also have a healthy respect for surgery, and I am of the opinion that it should be avoided if possible. However, if your symptoms require surgery, it should be done in a way that preserves uninvolved structures as much as possible - i.e., minimally invasive.

Dr. Tyler Smith is an excellent surgeon. He performed two back surgeries on me this last summer which went very smoothly. He's easy to talk to, makes things easy to understand and really cares about his patients.

Dr. Smith did not rush thru my appointment, I felt relaxed and well informed throughout our time together. Dr. Smith anticipated the questions I would ask and addressed them before I asked them. The office staff are very friendly, efficient, and treated me with care and respect. I highly recommend Dr. Smith and appreciate the care he and his staff have given me.

I have a complex spinal condition from two previous surgeons and 30 years of deterioration. Dr. Smith has uncanny skill, knowledge and compassion. He has improved my quality of life & mobility tremendously. His bedside manner is excellent and visiting him is more like a friend than a doctor. I've recommended him to my husband who has now also had surgery with Dr. Smith. The best spinal surgeon in Northern California in our book!

Dr. Smith performed a lumbar microdiscectomy on me earlier this morning. I had been suffering from extreme lower back and left leg sciatic nerve pain for nearly two years. It has been less than 10 hours since the surgery, and for the first time in ages, I am able to walk without shooting, excruciating pain and limping. He was kind, courteous, highly professional, and very reassuring throughout the entire process of consultation, pre-op, and the surgery itself. I HIGHLY recommend him.
