This content was provided by Dr. Hata "Tissa Hata, MD, is a board-certified dermatologist and clinical service chief and director of the UC San Diego Dermatology Clinical Trials Unit. Dr. Hata’s clinical research includes several ongoing clinical trials: new biologic and topical treatments for psoriasis, and studies on atopic dermatitis, acne and acne rosacea. She recently worked with a National Institutes of Health funded study examining the risks for eczema vaccinatum in atopic dermatitis patients. One of her newest projects examined the effects of dietary supplementation with vitamin D in patients with atopic dermatitis. Dr. Hata completed her fellowship at UCLA and residencies at UCLA and Harvard Medical School. She earned her medical degree from the University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine. During her time at Harvard, she conducted several cutting edge clinical trials at the Laser Center - Massachusetts General Hospital. Her interest in clinical trials and lasers has continued throughout her career. At the University of Utah, Dr. Hata helped develop the Raman Laser for noninvasive readings of carotenoid levels in the skin, and oversaw work in clinical trials in this arena. She has published in top tier journals such as the Journal of Investigative Dermatology, Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, British Journal of Dermatology and Journal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology. Dr. Hata is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology, UC San Diego Clinical and Translational Research Institute (CTRI), and the Society of Investigative Dermatology. She is a recipient of the Nature Medicine Publishing Best Abstract Award. Dr. Hata’s favorite pastime is hiking in national parks."
