Dr. Scheffel's bio
This content was provided by Dr. Scheffel "Tim Scheffel, D.O. has had a lifetime curiosity about how things work. He became interested in medicine while in high school and spent considerable time volunteering at a local hospital. After premedical education and graduate training in molecular physiology at Indiana University, Dr. Scheffel attended medical school in Chicago and post graduate training in Portland, Oregon. He began practice in 1981 in Seattle where he started a family medicine practice, was active at several local hospitals, and served on the hospital board. Family brought Dr. Scheffel to Alaska in 1991 where he established the Girdwood Medical Clinic and provided contract services to the Seward Hospital ER and the Whittier Clinic. In 1998 Dr. Scheffel transitioned from private medical practice to employment with Southcentral Foundation at the Alaska Native Medical Center(ANMC). He served for 10 years as the medical director for the urgent care clinic within the ANMC emergency department. An opportunity arose in 2008 to lead clinical expansion and improvement for the Kenaitze Indian Tribe in Kenai, Alaska. Between 2007 and 2014, Dr. Scheffel served as medical director, lab director and clinical systems director for the Tribe and helped expand their clinical services culminating in the opening of the 52,000 square foot Dena'ina Wellness Center which integrated medical, dental, mental health, and ancillary services. After completion of the Dena'ina project, Dr Scheffel has focused his efforts on providing consultative services for practice redesign and served as interim medical director for the SVTHW community health clinic in Homer, Alaska. In addition to the administrative work, Dr. Scheffel maintains a specialized private practice focusing on osteopathic treatment of musculoskeletal injuries and pain. Viewing pain and injuries through a unique fascial model, Dr. Scheffel is still trying to figure out how things work and how to fix them. "
This content was provided by Dr. Scheffel "Tim Scheffel, D.O. believes in a patient centered approach. Using a functional approach, Dr. Scheffel, works with patients to identify what may best help them achieve their health goals.
From a physical medicine standpoint this generally involves decreasing pain and improving physical functioning. Looking at pain and dysfunction through the lens of a specific fascial distortion model, Dr. Scheffel can provide surprisingly effective treatment. The goal is to mechanically fix your problem, ideally in one treatment. This is achieved by continually evaluating the patient during a treatment session and unraveling the soft tissue injuries or distortions which the patient demonstrates through word and action."
