Excellent Retinologist
Having been troubled by significant floaters for 10 years, thanks to Dr Shane I now have clear 20/20 vision. More specifically, he found a developing retinal tear and repaired it as part of the vitrectomy procedure. I have been able to return to reading books again for the first time in 3 years. He is empathic, efficient and extremely talented. I can't recommend him more highly. PS, his office staff are exceptional too. What a team!!

Pediatric Retina Visit
We had called around to MANY places when my daughter began seeing floaters and we needed to get seen. The receptionist was kind and attentive listening to our background. She gave clear directions on how to reach the office, which was very helpful because we just moved from out of state. Dr. Shane's office was a god send as every place we had attempted to get into would not see her due to her age or availability. The technician, Carlos, was so personable and kind easing her fears right off the bat. Dr Shane did a wonderful job with her explaining things and reassuring us that she could continue life as usual and what signs to watch for. So glad to have found a great retina specialist in the area!

Top Notch
I discovered some vision blurring in right eye on 09/21 and was referred to Dr Shane. His office quickly scheduled appointment. It was determined that there was detachment of my retina. Very important to have surgery done within a week of onset. Surgery done on 09/26. Dr Shane thoroughly explained procedure and recovery process. I had the buckle and gas bubble procedure. Bubble has now receded and tested today at 20/30 in the eye. I must admit I had some concern going into this, but Dr Shane was fantastic - calm, articulate and caring. Everything you want in a doctor. Staff was fantastic too. My longest wait in the waiting area was 30 seconds before being taken back to start follow up appointments.

Excellent Care!
Dr. Shane and his staff are the best of the best! About a year ago, a capillary ruptured in my left eye. He saw me immediately and monitored the situation closely. I ended up with very annoying floaters (I already had floaters in my right eye.) As a result, I was uncomfortable driving at night and my eyes tired out very quickly. Dr. Shane recently performed a vitrectomy on my left eye...the result was amazing and life changing. My vision in that eye is so good that I have scheduled a vitrectomy for my right eye. A huge thank you to Dr. Shane and his wonderful team!!!

A non responsive office ……
I would suggest you make an appointment with another retina specialist in Sarasota, instead of Dr. Shane, because his office staff is totally unprofessional and rude when trying to speak with Dr. Shane or the office manager and will lie about their availability, instead of assisting to resolve a problem. Multiple attempts using their ‘Contact Us’ messaging, to get a response from either Dr. Shane or the office manager to resolve a problem went unanswered.

I went to Dr. Shane and had a Vitreolysis laser treatment. My outcome was poor. I had a floater issue that was somewhat annoying which is now VERY and CONSTANTLY annoying. What Dr. Shane failed to tell me is that, while the floater size would be reduced with the treatment, it could change the appearance OR in his words (after the fact) "perception" of the floaters. In my case, the procedure reduced the size of the floaters so that they now move around all over my eyes like little bugs. Before the procedure, the (big) floater was limited to one corner of my eye. It's terrible. He didn't inform me that the procedure might change the "perception" of the floaters. I went back to him and told him of my current situation and he was as cold as ice. He's not an empathetic person. He's a CYA guy. And, don't expect a call back from him if you call and ask for him to call you, he doesn't call his patients (even after a procedure).

I am a new patient of Dr Shane’s and had an appointment today. The entire staff were so friendly and upbeat! Dr Shane was excellent!! He gave me a through examination and explained to me step by step the procedure I am having. I felt very comfortable asking questions in which he answered every one. I was a bit anxious about going to a “new” doctor, but once I met Dr Shane I knew I was in the right place by his overall knowledge and demeanor. I would highly recommend Dr Shane for your eye health and any issues you may have.

Dr. Shane saved my eye. I had a detached retina and he took me immediately. I was sent there from another eye doctor who could have done the procedure but was in a hurry to go on vacation. Lucky me to have fallen in Dr. Shane’s care.
