Dr. Klein's bio

This content was provided by Dr. Klein "Dr. Thomas Klein is a specialist in otolaryngology at Reliant Medical Group in Worcester. Otolaryngology (also known as ENT for ears, nose and throat) is a medical specialty that deals with a wide range of problems affecting the head, neck, ears and throat. As well as diagnosing and treating patients, otolaryngologists are also surgeons who operate on patients for everything from sinus problems to cancer of the head and neck. Dr. Klein believes that listening to patients is the key to good ENT care. "Paying careful attention to the patient is important because the patient will lead you on the right path to the proper diagnosis. Once you have the right diagnosis, it makes it a lot easier to give patients the care they need. I want every patient to walk out of my office knowing they are receiving the best care I can provide." In his practice, Dr. Klein has enjoyed taking advantage of the new cutting-edge technologies that have made an impact on ENT care. "Probably the piece of technology that has had the biggest impact on my practice is the operating microscope. This instrument allows the surgeon to see in great detail and perform very advanced micro-vascular surgery – it has become essential for ENT care." According to Dr. Klein, hearing loss can appear suddenly in some patients. "That's why it's very important to treat hearing loss without delay and investigate the cause." But he also notes that hearing loss doesn't just happen to elderly people as many people might think. Hearing loss has become more prevalent in people of all ages, and it is something that should not be ignored. "Much of the hearing loss we see in patients is due to aging and hereditary factors, but it can also be caused by ear infections, motor vehicle accidents, loud music, trauma, working in a noisy environment, inner ear diseases and other problems. The first step is talking to your PCP about what you're experiencing. But from there, it is important to have a hearing exam by an audiologist. Once a diagnosis has been made, we can take steps to prevent further damage. Oftentimes, a loss in hearing can be treated with hearing aids. Unfortunately, hearing loss isn't reversible but it can be prevented from getting worse." As an ENT specialist, Dr. Klein is also involved in treating patients with the Sleep Apnea Group at Reliant Medical Group. "I meet with patients who complain of snoring and other sleep issues. Often, we conduct a sleep study in which patients stay overnight and are carefully monitored while they sleep. We then determine a course of treatment once we know what the problem is. Many patients who have airway problems at night have been greatly helped by using a CPAP machine." Dr. Klein truly enjoys working at Reliant Medical Group with all the support of his colleagues and staff. "I don't know what I would do without them, they really help me get through my day. Everyone who works here is very dedicated to helping patients and that is why we are able to provide such outstanding care. It's a great group to work with.""
