Care Philosophy

This content was provided by Dr. King "If you cannot breathe, nothing else matters.  As  a Pulmonary physician, the management of many of the  lung diseases  relates to the improvement in  shortness of breath.  However, breathing is a complex process involving  different mechanisms in different lung diseases.  My focus in research is to improve understanding in the defect in oxygen  uptake  in chronic lung diseases such as Emphysema and Chronic bronchitis and to develop possible remedies.  For example, it is now known that disease causing uneven distribution of the inhaled air and blood flow to the gas exchanging units in the lungs is the major mechanism in impaired oxygen uptake.  Treatment with medications relieving spasm of the muscles of the airway and decreasing airway inflammation can result in significant  improvement in oxygen transfer in COPD/Chronic bronchitis and Asthma.

My clinical expertise includes but is not limited to the diagnosis and management of Pneumonia, Lung caner and the Fibrotic Lung diseases. It is true that strong causal factors are known in major lung diseases: such as smoking in Lung cancer or COPD and infectious agents causing Pneumonia and Tuberculosis so that major preventative measures are crucial  and can do much in reducing lung diseases.."
