A native of St. Louis, he attended Vanderbilt University and earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia. He earned his medical degree at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine and completed a fellowship program in Interventional Radiology at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis. Dr. Hodgkiss has served as Assistant Clinical Professor of Radiology at the University of Tennessee Health Center. He has focused his practice on interventional oncology and has cared for and treated cancer patients at two large cancer centers for more than 15 years. He serves as a consultant, researcher, and physician educator for the Medtronic Company in the specialty of bone and spinal tumor ablation. He also works in collaboration with Angiodynamics, developing and advancing microwave treatments for soft tissue cancers. He has served as a primary investigator on two large research projects with Medtronic, involving percutaneous repair of aortic aneurysms and spinal kyphoplasty with the associated recovery post procedure. Dr. Hodgkiss also works in collaboration with DFINE Inc., as a consultant and proctor, to advance radiofrequency ablation treatments for spinal bone tumors."
