This content was provided by Dr. Deutsch One of the great things about ophthalmology is - we can see almost all of the parts of the eye that we need in order to make a diagnosis. So most of the time, when I see a patient, I can tell them immediately what's going on, what treatment options there may be, or - very commonly - that there isn't anything that they need to worry about. We're benefitted working at Rush because in an academic setting we're spurred on by the presence of students and cutting-edge research to look for innovative ways to take care of our patients every day, instead of waiting for others to tell us what might be coming along. Cataract surgery is much easier than it was even 10 years ago on the patient. Although technologically it's much more difficult and much more complicated for the surgeon. And as a result, patients can come in, have cataract surgery and leave 15 or 20 minutes later, have no pain that night, and the next day have excellent vision. Most patients drive back to see us the next day for their postoperative examination.
