This content was provided by Dr. Balija "Dr. Tara Balija is an Assistant Professor of Surgery at the Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine at Seton Hall University. She is a strong proponent of the multidisciplinary care of breast cancer patients to optimize patient outcomes. She is a patient advocate who believes in the humanistic care of her patients. She completed her fellowship training in Breast Surgical Oncology at the Rutgers-Cancer Institute of New Jersey where she became well versed in techniques such as skin or nipple sparing mastectomy, lumpectomy, and sentinel lymph node biopsy in appropriately selected patients. She is the current director of the Breast Cancer Assessment & Risk Evaluation (Breast CARE) program for women at elevated lifetime risk of breast cancer development. The Breast CARE program incorporates high risk screening and counseling for women with a strong family history of breast cancer, positive gene mutations with increased risk of breast cancer (i.e. BRCA1/2, PALB2, ATM), atypical ductal/lobular hyperplasia, lobular carcinoma in situ, or women who had mantle radiation for Hodgkin's lymphoma. Each patient's management plan is individualized according to national guidelines, as well as the patient's healthcare goals. Dr. Balija is also a site principal investigator of several national cooperative group trials including the Alliance A011202, NSABP B51, and COMET trials. She is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and an active member of the American Society of Breast Surgeons, the Society of Surgical Oncology, and the New York Metropolitan Breast Cancer Group. Dr. Balija has been involved in curriculum development at the Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine and is an active mentor to college students, medical students, and residents."

Dr. Balija And her staff are patient, helpful and knowledgeable. She was thourough with testing before any surgery was performed. Her work left a very small scar. Her post opt appointment was reassuring. I still see her to monitor my condition.
