This content was provided by Dr. Nichols "Tann Nichols, MD, is a neurosurgeon with Mayfield Brain & Spine with expertise in minimally invasive spine surgery, discectomy, decompression, spinal fusion, and kyphoplasty. He performs surgical procedures for the management of chronic pain in the spine or lower limbs, including spinal cord stimulation and intrathecal pain pump implantation. And he treats patients diagnosed with brain tumors, carpal tunnel syndrome, and ulnar nerve neuropathy. Dr. Nichols graduated from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland and earned his medical degree from the Case Western School of Medicine as well. After completing his neurosurgical residency at the University of South Florida in Tampa in 2008, he joined Mayfield. Dr. Nichols enjoyed science from an early age and set his sights on becoming a doctor while he was in middle school. He became part of the neuroscience crowd in medical school, partly by chance. The neurosurgery interest group held its meetings at a jazz club about 100 feet from the hospital, and Dr. Nichols headed over to see what it was all about. He found that he enjoyed the company of the young neuroscientists and their discussions about the remarkable workings of the human brain. Away from work, Dr. Nichols spends most of his free time with his family. He enjoys reading (especially science fiction), but has put his glass-blowing hobby on hold. It is difficult to take emergency phone calls when one is working with hot molten glass."
This content was provided by Dr. Nichols ""My goal is to do whatever is necessary to help you feel better, whether it involves a prescription for muscle relaxers, minimally invasive surgery, or physical therapy. Although I can't guarantee that I can fix the problem, I want to help you get back to doing the things you need to do and want to do in life. I'm here to help you get back on the horse, basically. Whether you have a back problem or cancer, I know that you don't want this to be your life. You don't want to be the person with a bad back. You'd prefer to be the person who had a bad back. You don't want to be defined by a medical problem. My goal is to help you rise above your medical problem and enjoy life as the person you want to be.""
