Dr. Tamara K. Fackler, a medical retina specialist at Chesapeake Eye Care and Laser Center, brings over 20 years of clinical experience to the Annapolis practice. Dr. Fackler is board certified in ophthalmology and practiced in Florida and Washington, D.C., before joining Chesapeake Eye Care in 2005. She utilizes high definition OCT, digital fluorescein angiography and fundus autofluorescence to treat her patients’ retinal needs. A specialist in the treatment of wet (neovascular) macular degeneration, Dr. Fackler offers therapy with Avastin, Lucentis and Eylea. She maintains a large wet macular degeneration practice and has given over 10,000 intravitreal injections. Her experience also includes the treatment of central serous retinopathy and choroidal neovascularization from myopia and ocular histoplasmosis. Dr. Fackler provides laser and injection therapy for diabetic retinopathy, diabetic macular edema, and retinal vein occlusions. Dr. Fackler studied biochemistry at Harvard University and graduated cum laude. She earned her medical degree from The Ohio State University College of Medicine where she was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society, an award given to the top students. She completed her ophthalmology residency at The Washington Hospital Center, where she served as Chief Resident her final year. In addition, she completed a fellowship in Corneal and External Diseases at The Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins, and also in Retinal Diseases at the prestigious Duke University Medical Center. Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and licensed to practice in Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia, Dr. Fackler is an active member of the American Society of Retina Specialists. She is a published author and has been involved in a number of clinical research studies, most notably on wet macular degeneration and retinal vein occlusions.
