This content was provided by Dr. Kamath "After receiving a B.A. in human biology and anthropology at Emory University in just three years, Dr. Suma Kamath completed her medical degree (M.D.) at University of Tennessee Health Science Center in her hometown of Memphis, Tennessee. She completed her pediatric residency at St. Vincent's Hospital Manhattan and then went on to complete her pediatric gastroenterology fellowship at New York-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital at Columbia University Medical Center. Dr. Kamath is dedicated to her patients and their parents and makes the process of managing a child's illness easier through compassion and communication. She enjoys working with children, their families, their schools, and their pediatricians to figure out what works best for each individual child. She takes great joy in using her medical knowledge to improve the daily lives of children with digestive diseases. Dr. Kamath has a special interest in eosiniphilic esophagitis and a personal interest in inflammatory bowel disease. She has also joined the multidisciplinary team at the Center for Digestive Diseases and Swallowing Disorders at NewYork-Presbyterian/Queens so that children and infants with swallowing or feeding difficulties can benefit from the expertise of a pediatric gastroenterologist, swallow therapist, and nutritionist all at one central location. Dr. Kamath clinical interests also include nutrition, constipation, and gastroesophageal reflux disease. Dr. Kamath is trained in performing diagnostic and interventional endoscopic procedures in children of all ages with gastrointestinal diseases. This includes: esophagogastroduodenoscopy, colonoscopy, ileoscopy, polypectomy, percutaneous gastrostomy tube placement, sclerotherapy, variceal banding, endoscopic management of upper gastrointestinal bleeding, and foreign body removal."
