Dr. Roy's bio
This content was provided by Dr. Roy "Dr. Roy is a Stanford-educated, fellowship-trained facial plastic surgeon board certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery. He is a prolific author of numerous scientific manuscripts and book chapters on aging, facial rejuvenation and rhinoplasty, and has lectured nationally on the topic of facial cosmetic surgery. In addition to facial plastic and reconstructive surgery, Dr. Roy is a hair restoration specialist and one of the only providers to offer the ARTAS 9X (the most up-to-date) robotic hair transplantation system in the entire Midwest region. The son of a United Nations diplomat, Dr. Roy was born and raised in Italy (Rome) where he completed most of his early education. This unique upbringing allowed him to develop fluency in multiple languages, including Italian, Spanish, Hindi and Bengali. He decided to leave his European roots to pursue his pre-medical undergraduate studies at Stanford University in Palo Alto, California, where he first realized and developed his passion for translational (bench-to-bedside) medical research. After graduating from Stanford, he was recruited to an NIH- and National Institute of Aging-funded research laboratory through the Glenn Center for the Biology of Aging at Stanford. This culminated in a landmark paper on the effects of aging on muscle stem cell regeneration, published in the renowned academic journal, Science. Academics was not his only passion, however. Dr. Roy is an accomplished singer, having trained classically in Italy as a young student, followed by a cappella in college. Dr. Roy was a soloist and tenor in Stanford's oldest a cappella group, The Stanford Mendicants, and also founded Stanford University's first South Asian fusion a cappella group, Raagapella. His recorded albums ("Mendication" and "Raags to Riches") are available on Itunes and Spotify. Currently, he enjoys the occasional gig as wedding singer for friends and family. Dr. Roy went on to graduate at the top of his class from New York Medical College where he received his medical degree (M.D). He was also inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honors society, reserved for medical students all around the country with the highest academic achievements who also exhibit good character, leadership, professionalism and a dedication to community service. After medical school, he moved to Philadelphia to complete a five-year, rigorous surgical training program in Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, ranked in the top ten hospitals (US News & World Report 2017) for the specialty. Having witnessed first-hand the incredible gratification of restoring form, function and cosmesis to patients of all ages with head and neck cancer through facial plastic and reconstructive surgical procedures, he was convinced this was his calling. He also recognized and appreciated the tremendous boost in confidence and quality of life he was able to provide to his patients through cosmetic surgeries such as otoplasty, rhinoplasty and facelifting. Wanting to pursue additional training in facial plastic surgery to provide the best surgical outcomes for his patients, he secured a highly competitive fellowship through the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (only 45 available every year nationwide) under the guidance of Dr. Edward D. Buckingham, a world-renowned facial plastic surgeon specializing in aging face surgery, primary and revision rhinoplasty as well as post-MOHS surgery reconstruction in Austin, Texas.
