Dr. Smith performed anterior hip replacement on my left hip in May. I couldn't walk without a cane my first visit. He was very professional, explained all aspects of the surgery. It was wonderful to not have that horrible pain anymore after surgery. He just replaced my right hip in August as well. I'm walking like my old self again. Dr. Smith is awesome and don't put off hip surgery. You won't regret doing it!
in Hermitage, TN |
Dr. Smith is a wonderful surgeon. He takes time to explain everything that is going to happen. TAP really educates you on every step of your surgery. One month after my hip replacement I'm walking without pain wit no pain medication. He also did double knee replacement on my Husband and he is doing wonderful.

I saw Dr Smith today for a knee with fluid on it. He was great taking it out. I was so scared it was going to hurt. I didn't feel a thing. He's my a hero. I have also had 2 hip replacements with him in the past year. Had a total hip replaced and was out dancing on the Friday night after Mondays surgery on the 1st one and out Wednesday morning at a Meeting at work in heels ?? after surgery on Monday on the 2nd. He's a God sent. No pain what so ever after surgeries. Should have done it years ago.
in Nashville, TN |
Dr. Smith is highly educated, credentialed, and well-respected. He spends more than enough time explaining the surgical procedure and expected outcome. Most importantly, he listens with a good heart. I cannot recommend more highly for hip replacement.

My experience with Dr. Smith and TOA, from the initial consultation through post-op, was excellent. I always felt I was being carefully listened to by the doctor and his great staff Bryn and Dorene. It is my way to have a lot of questions which Dr. Smith always took the time to fully answer. I had double knee replacement with fast recovery leaving on a flight only 5 weeks later to attend our family reunion.

My name is Carolyn Cornwell, I am 79 years old. I recently had an MRI showing that I needed total hip replacement. I chose to go to Dr. Stuart Smith because of high recommendation from a former patient. I had my surgery on May 10, 2017 went back for followup on June 1, 2017. I went to therapy and stop using walker and never used a cane. Dr. Smith was so amazed of my fast recovery that he chose not to even see me back in 3 months. I would recommend Dr. Smith to all who need surgery.

Dr. Smith has replaced joints in most of my family. I fell and broke my leg and he was on call. He did surgery and repaired my leg. He is so calm and reassuring and we feel blessed to know such a good orthopedic surgeon.
in Brentwood, TN |
Dr. Smith did an anterior approach hip replacement. It was a wonderful experience. I was informed of the procedure and what to expect. Scheduling of pre-op class, surgery and post surgery office visit was done in the best manner possible. Whenever I called the office, I received a return call promptly from his nurse. Dr. Smith is an excellent surgeon; pain I had experienced is gone and they handled my post op pain perfectly. This was a life changing experience. Dr. Smith is the best!

He has a very pleasant mannerism and is thorough in his expertise. My surgery came through without complication. He dealt nicely with my family members.Initial appointment took some time. After he saw my MRI i was moved up the schedule promptly. He answered all my questions and he spent necessary time with me.

I have had appointments with Dr. Smith for over ten years. I would not consider going to another orthopedic physician other than Dr. Smith and have recommended him many times to those with orthopedic problems.

Great doctor.
Nashville, TN |
I had a horrible experience. After a knee manipulation and things just not going well, many months of P.T, I had a second opinion and it was discovered that I had a stretched PCL which apparently wasn't appropriately address doing the knee replacement & now after a second opinion I've learned that I'm going to have to have the procedure done all over again. I am so distraught just thinking about all the pain, suffering, expense, loss of enjoyment, I will have to endure all over again. Aweful
in Chattanooga, TN |
Replaced right knee after another physician botched the surgery the year before. Replaced left hip after another doctor misdiagnosed the problem and recommended knee replacement. In both cases there was minimal scarring and rapid and total recovery. We have recommended him to a number of friends.
in Hendersonville, TN |
I had bilateral unicompartmenta knee replacement in Feb. of 2016. Dr. Smith explained all the pros and cons and after checking me out gave me my options . He left it totally up to me. He even told me that it would be painful but that due to my condition on both knees that he thought he could relieve me of some or all of my pain. I returned home the day after surgery. It was painful but after about 3 weeks I was back at work. I am back to all activities 4 months post op. Great Surgeon.
in Ashland City, TN |
Dr. Smith is a consummate professional in his field. He is very personable and does an outstanding job of answering questions in a manner understandable by a layman. The quality of his work is outstanding. He performed a single knee replacement for me and I would have no compunction about him performing any future surgery of this nature again on my other knee. I would recommend him to anyone.
