I had a colonoscopy and endoscopy last week. It went off without a hitch. He was on time and I had no problems with the procedure or afterwards. I got good results of my pathology today.

Another great experience
This was my second screening procedure from Dr Akerman and his team at DHAT. Everything went smoothly and according to the plan. The Doctor and his staff are all very professional and personable. I highly recommend him for routine screenings and more serious conditions you may need addressed.

Dr. Akerman was lucky enough to perform my very first colonoscopy. Everyone that I came in contact with was excellent. The nurse, anesthesiologist, and Dr. Akerman made me feel very comfortable and answered all the questions I had. I felt very at ease and knew exactly what to expect because of everyone I came into contact with. Dr. Akerman is very personable and has great bedside manners.

Friendly and competent
Being 67 years old, I went in to obtain an update screening for both an endoscopy and colonoscopy at DHAT. I was a past patient of Dr. Goldsmeidt, with whom I have a great deal of respect. Dr. Goldsmeidt had helped me through some considerable health issues that I had to deal with about 20 years ago. Due Dr. Goldsceidt retirement, I was referred to Dr. Akerman for these procedures, and I'll have to admit that I believe I've been handed off to good hands. I felt like the the entire experience was very professional. Both Dr. Akerman and his staff were friendly, helpful, and appeared quite competent. It's nice to know that I don't need to worry about where I can go if/when I have any further digestive health issues.

"I'd do this again next week! "
Apparently those were my first words coming out of my colonoscopy, and while I'm less groggy now I'd still happily undergo the procedure again with Dr. Ackerman. From my first appointment I appreciated his friendly, approachable bedside manner and the fact I never felt rushed or dismissed - he was 100% professional but warm, explaining things in a way I could understand easily and answering all my questions - even those that were slightly off topic! The procedure itself was intimidating, but his staff was quick to answer questions, ease fears and provide guidance, and the prep he chose was about as painless as it's possible to be! DHC was a wonderful experience too - from check in to exit was quick, easy, and comfortable. I felt like every person I came in contact with was professional, well trained, and focused on helping my process be as successful and comfortable as possible. While I don't REALLY want another colonoscopy next week, I will definitely return to Dr. Ackerman when I do!

Reputation Well Deserved
Dr. Akerman actually listens and collaborates with you to find a solution to your problem. This is extremely rare with specialist physicians. I scheduled 3 interviews with different GIs to interview them and decide who I wanted to work with. He was my first interview and I cancelled the other 2, confident he would be my first choice. The procedures were easy and painless. The facility was surprisingly organized and efficient. My only complaint is the paperwork. He embraces modern web/mobile technology but is bridled by having to interface with the antiquated paper/fax/phone shortcoming of the practice. Despite this, he is highly recommended.

What's Not to Like...?
Went in for a second colonoscopy (first one, at age 49, was done by now-retired Mickey Goldschmitt), and I had waited a while, so I was somewhat anxious. The procedure could not have gone more smoothly. Dr. Akerman is chill--easy-going manner that helps you get comfortable with what's to come... The procedure itself was easy--great facility, good support staff, and when the time came for the scope itself, Dr. Akerman was quick and did a great job answering a lot of questions. I guess it sounds strange to say about going in for the afternoon to get a camera stuffed up your tailpipe, but I would almost describe this as "pleasant."

Good consultation review with PA Heather and quick scheduling for procedure. Very detailed prep instructions and about the least onerous prep possible. Very efficient outpatient center with an excellent anesthesiologist and support staff.

I went for a routine colonoscopy. He reviewed my medical history without the need for an extra visit. His staff were excellent. He introduced himself before the procedure and reviewed all the important info. After the procedure he came to the recovery room to explain the findings. I'd highly recommend him
