This content was provided by Dr. Toenjes "Dr. Steven Toenjes has special ties to Jacksonville's military community having served from 2006-2010 as an active-duty physician for the U.S. Navy. He distinguished himself as the Department Head of Neurology at Navy Hospital Jacksonville (NHJ) and by receiving a Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal in 2010. He subsequently moved into private practice in 2010. Dr. Toenjes has a special interest in treating headache and sleep disorders along with general neurology. Dr. Toenjes is a graduate of Wake Forest University School of Medicine being elected into the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society during his senior year. He conducted his internship and neurology residency training at Yale University where he was awarded the "intern of the year award" in 2003, the Lewis L. Levy resident of the year in 2004, and was elected as administrative chief resident in 2006. In addition to the practice of medicine, Dr. Toenjes enjoys academics and teaching and has been recognized by receiving the USUHS Department of Neurology Clinical Educator Award (2009). His hobbies and personal time are primarily consumed by fishing and spending time with his family."
