I was very concerned about the quality of medical care when I moved to Kern County five years ago. I would say my experience with SCOI and Dr. Schopler were perfect. I can not image a better organized back office, support staff or capability of the physicians. Intelligent explanations, follow through on medications and care, and strong communications with my labs and primary care physician. Wonderful experience with two surgeries.

He didn't make me wait for a long time for my scheduled appointments. He listened to my concerns/symptoms. He didn't jump to surgery as my first and only option. Once surgery was decided, his staff was very efficient in getting things scheduled. His PA, Emily Fish, was very informative and explained the procedure thoroughly. His office manager Melissa was quick to return my calls and get answers to my questions.

Hi, I had fusion done little less then two weeks ago and everything went great. After the surgery I spent the night in the hospital and was released the next day in the afternoon. I had fusion done on L,3,4 and 5. Today was my post-op appointment and saw the X-ray of my spine and it looks great. After the surgery I used the walker for about 2 days and I have walking without one since. It's important that you keep walking to build your strength. Everyone at SCOI has been very helpful and Memorial Hospital was awesome. A big thank you to everyone, Lee

Dr Schopler is an outstanding surgeon. He is a conservative, cautious, and very competent surgeon. Dr Schopler will use less invasive treatments before surgery is discussed. He is always friendly. I never felt rushed in his office. His PA, Emily is also an amazing asset to the team.

I started seeing Doctor Schopler about 9 years ago in his Valencia office. I was so impressed with his patience, kindness and willingness to listen to what you have to say without feeling rushed. He also has a great sense of humor. After trying several alternatives we decided surgery was the best option. The surgery was a success. Recently I have started having some issues with my back. Dr. Schopler moved his practice up to Bakersfield. Even though Bakersfield is about 1 1/2 hours drive from here, he is worth every minute it takes to get there. He is an amazing doctor who truly cares about his patients.

Dr. Shopler is an excellent spinal surgeon whose experience is unparalleled. He was very thorough pre surgery, explained every aspect of his surgery plan to me and answered every question I had. He performed three surgeries in one in my case. I had two previous lumbar surgeries in 1998 (L5/S1 fusion) and 2000 (spinal stenosis). I lived on spinal injections for nineteen years until they no longer worked for me. Lesser experienced doctors refused to operate on me and I knew I had to find a doctor with years of experience and confidence. I researched spinal surgeons in Bakersfield and I just knew Dr. Shopler was my last chance. He did not blink an eye and my surgery was scheduled. I am almost three weeks post surgery and it is slow but steady progress. The years of pain and loss of quality of life is improving everyday. I would recommend anyone with spinal issues to consult with Dr. Shopler.

Dr Schopler dud surgery on my daughter that had to be repaired 1 year later at Cedars-Sinai. The Drs there told me that the surgery Dr Schopler did on my daughter should not have been done. She was in excruciating pain and in a hospital bed for 30 days after the Drs at Cedars repaired his mistakes.

I was extremely scared to have two disc replaced at 36 years old but I am so happy I did it. A week prior to my surgery I met two people who had the same surgery by Schopler and told me how great their progress has been. I would do it again, only if SCOI and Dr Schopler did it. No complaints!!!

Dr. Schopler seems astute and competent in his bedside manner and approach to my medical issue. A good friend (a nurse in the medical field) had back surgery done by Dr. Schopler and she thought he was fabulous. Seems to have relief of your pain or discomfort as his primary goal. Getting a first appointment with Dr. Schopler can take some time as he seems to be very busy. I'll be taking my 13-year-old to him for back issues soon. Recommend.
