I want to convey to my patients that my mission as a psychiatrist is to make every single encounter with them helpful and uplifting in some way. Even when little can be done with medication, some change in attitude, humor or philosophy, can offer hope for improvement.
I want to make clear that after having treated over 10,000 patients, there will be a small minority who are disgruntled, refuse to accept necessary limitations on habit forming medications or who expect responses to their every demand, as of "yesterday". I believe these folks are usually the ones making negative and snide remarks in my patient satisfaction surveys. These negative remarks are to be seen in every practitioner's surveys, as they are, all over the Internet.
