Conditions Treated

Dr. Houser says..

I am one of the few physicians in the world that treats Empty Nose Syndrome. This rare iatrogenic condition occurs in a small subset of patients that undergo turbinate destruction/excision. It is characterized by paradoxical obstruction - the patient feels as though they cannot breathe per nose, yet on exam they are wide open. They often complain of suffocation.

I am able to implant ENS patients with alloderm to build up tissue into "neo-turbinates'"

As this is considered experimental surgery, insurance does not cover it.

Facial pain after nasal surgery is not ENS, and I ask chronic pain patients to seek a pain specialist. Unfortunately, the internet often leads people to believe that pain is ENS.

Septal perforation repair is an area that I engage in as well. Some holes are too large to fix, but utilizing acellular dermal tissue and a septal flap I can close many perforations.

If you fo to youtube and search for "houser sinus" you will find videos I have created. Many of the videos deal with surgery for chronic sinusitis.
