Dr. Ponas is one of the most conscientious and Honorable physicians I have ever known… As a pharmaceutical rep I have had an opportunity to go to many offices and I had a choice of who I would pick as my urologist and he is the best 1 out there.

My father likes Dr. Ponas as a doctor. He had his third kidney stone procedure scheduled with him. It was scheduled for a 9am arrival and 11am surgery. He confirmed this with the surgery scheduler, Delores, 2 days after making the apt with her. 20 DAYS BEFORE SURGERY he received an email from Delores that said 9am/11am. 3 days before surgery the hospital called and said it was a 7am / 9am. They said they would call Dr. Ponas's office about the discrepancy. Not hearing back, my father called the office the day before the surgery. Dr. Ponas's office confirmed that it was 9am/11am. My father then called the hospital; they still had the wrong time but told him to go by his doctor's office. Day of surgery, we receive a call at 7:30 asking where he is. We explained the mix up. They apologized. At 8am the hospital calls again and says that the surgery will be cancelled due to the error. They apologized again and said they had been trying Dr. Ponas's office and couldn't reach anyone there!

I am very happy with the care and treatment that Dr. Ponas has provided to me. I had had a greatly enlarged prostate treated six years earlier by another urologist, but it had to be redone. After Dr. Ponas' performed the procedure, the sudden frequent urges to urinate all quickly went away. Needless to say, I am totally satisfied with his care, and I would highly recommend him to anyone with similar problems. In addition, his office staff is efficient and helpful.

I had a kidney stone and Dr. Ponas removed it. The procedure went well, I had no complications, and Dr. Ponas's office reacted quickly when I had a follow-up request. I would recommend him and Affiliated Urologists.

My third visit. There is significant waiting time - the waiting room has been very busy every visit. 20 to 30 minutes waiting time. More waiting time in the exam room. Dr. Ponas is very nice, patient and compassionate. Worth the wait.

On both my initial and follow up visit, Dr Ponas was very attentive and open to hear my concerns and personal insights on my health care treatment. We had an open an frank discussion with both of us sharing thoughts and ideas as to the proper course of treatment. We collectively agreed to a course and have set upon it. This is most refreshing in a world where it’s usually the doctor’s way or look for another doctor type of mentality.

I cannot comment on the surgery. I continue to have total urinary incontinence after 6 weeks, but am otherwise healed, so time will tell. The office, communication, counseling part of the process was abysmal. The impression I was given was the surgery was similar to having appendix removed. Nothing I was ever told even basically explained what I would experience, what I should do to prepare, or how I should handle post op and recovery. Frankly, what I got was "take two aspirin and call me in the morning." ... But don't bother calling because you will never penetrate the phone system. A simple handout covering the diagnosis, pre-op, post-op and recovery things to know, how to prepare, things to expect and reasonable to anticipate variations would have been the minimum required. I didn't need hand holding, I needed information. The office seemed out of control and simply unable to handle the patient volume. Go elsewhere. It can't be any worse.

Yes, Dr. Ponas is a knowledgeable and caring Urologist. Because of a MRI and full body bone scan that revealed two lesions (prostate and spine), I wanted the Mayo Clinic to cover the entire process of treatment. It is for this reason I have chosen to continue with the Mayo Clinic.

My appointment was for 9 AM. I left the office it was 10:50 AM. I spent over an hour in the back waiting to see the doctor for five minute procedure. The doctor was also very short with me when I was asking him questions about what he saw. Apparently it’s quantity over quality here. The office also dropped the ball on a surgery I was supposed to have it notified me less than 12 hours before the surgery that I needed to be re-cancel. Now I have to wait another three weeks possing fiery bloody guts .
