Dr. Stefano Bini is Chief of Orthopedic Surgery at UCSF. Born in Italy and raised in Australia, he finished high school in San Francisco. From there, he went on to get his undergraduate degree at Stanford University and his MD from the prestigious Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeon. After completing his residency in orthopedic surgery at UCSF, he also did a fellowship at Rizzoli Orthopaedic Institute in Italy. Now, he is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon - one of the most respected in his field. Beyond his clinical work, he's active in the research community and has published more than 110 scientific papers on topics like digital medicine, improving surgical technique, and cartilage repair. He also serves as Associate Editor of Arthroscopy Today. After leading orthopedic programs and research around the world, he's returning to UCSF to head the orthopedics department to focus on improving the patient experience, clinical outcomes, and resident training. Outside of work, he enjoys cooking meals for his family, learning how to dance and toying with photography.
