This content was provided by Dr. Wolfe "Dr. Wolfe is an associate professor of neurological surgery with the Wake Forest School of Medicine and director of the residency program at the affiliated Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. She is known for her work in building the stroke and cerebrovascular program at Wake Forest as Director of Neurointerventional Surgery, and for her efforts in educating the public on stroke and brain injury. Dr. Wolfe graduated from the six-year combined BA/MD program at the University of Missouri in Kansas City and completed neurosurgical residency at the University of Miami under the mentorship of Dr. Roberto Heros, followed by a Cerebrovascular/Skull Base and an Endovascular fellowship. She served as a Commander in the United States Navy as Chief of Neurosurgery at Tripler Army Medical Center before joining Wake Forest in 2013. Dr. Wolfe specializes in cerebrovascular disease and performs research in open and endovascular treatments for ischemic and hemorrhagic neurovascular pathology, including aneurysms, AVMs, dural fistulae, moya moya disease, cavernomas, carotid disease, and acute stroke. Dr. Wolfe has authored over 75 peer-reviewed papers and book chapters in the fields of cerebrovascular surgery, neurotrauma, cellular transplantation and medical education. She serves as an editorial reviewer for the Journal of Neurosurgery, Neurosurgery, World Neurosurgery and the Journal of Neurointerventional Surgery. Dr. Wolfe is recognized for her leadership and mentorship, having served as the Chair of the AANS/CNS Section on Women in Neurosurgery, Chair of the AANS Young Neurosurgeons Committee, Chair of the CSNS AANS Caucus, and on the Executive Committee of the Congress of Neurological Surgery and the AANS/CNS Cerebrovascular Section. She has served on the AANS Board of Directors, the Washington Committee, and has most recently been recognized as an ABNS Scholar and elected to the Society of Neurological Surgeons. Additionally, she has been recognized for her humanitarian work in Haiti, Venezuela, and Nicaragua with the Young Neurosurgeons Public Service Citation."
