I’ve been a patient of Dr Shanmugan for a few years and he is one of the best doctors I have ever had. Caring and compassionate. I truly don’t understand how anyone could rate him less than 5 stars. Sometimes people don’t like hearing what a doctor has to say and vent through posting a bad review. This is so unfair to dedicated doctors like Dr Shanmugan. Again, he’s fantastic!

My first visit with him left me knowing I had to find another doctor. The second visit I just walked out on him while he was still talking, he is so full of himself that he doesn’t bother to listen to what you are trying to tell him. A waste of time, and I’m telling my insurance company not to pay him. Thoroughly disgusted! I also waited close to an hour in the exam room.

I had two surgeries by another surgeon in a different hospital last April and May. It was a good experience my first time but sadly my second time was disaster . I was ignored and had complications having a difficult time getting any new surgeon to accept my case. I ended up going to HUP and met Dr.Shanmugan who was ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL. He explained everything and gave me great education and expectations for my now upcoming surgery. I highly recommend for anyone.

Wow. Didn't even look at my chart before seeing me....then wanted to hear himself talk more than he wanted to hear about my concerns. He dismissed me, then in short saying all the other doctors were stupid, and acted like I was a waste of his time. I guess he had plans for the weekend and I was holding him up. What a joke of an appointment.

I had the j pouch surgery done by Dr. Shanmugan, he gave me my life back. I can't thank him enough for pushing me to get the surgery. I was going to the bathroom 18-25 times a day with blood in each bowel movement and with no control, if I had to go I had to run to the nearest bathroom. Now I am 7 weeks out of my surgeries and feel great, I have full control and am only going 5-8 times.
