Before my sister's brain tumor surgery, Dr. Smitherman called me and my wife and told us what she hoped to accomplish. We felt like she had all the time in the world to talk to us. The tumor was large and she didn't exaggerate the expected outcome. (My 80-year-old sister was showing signs of dementia and we hoped some of that would go away.) After the surgery she was to go to a rehab facility for two to three weeks of therapy. Well, the procedure was so successful my sister went straight back to her assisted living facility after a week in St. Peter's. The result has been amazing. Gone is any sign of dementia and my sister is as sharp and full of energy as she was five or ten years ago. If there are angels here on earth, we think we discovered one in Dr. Smitherman.

My experience with Dr. Smitherman was excellent, she is an extremely competent neurosurgeon, trust her, she can fix you. She shares with you her recommended procedure completely, listens to your concerns and answers your questions completely. Her post op visits went very well and I was very satisfied. This review I am writing 6 years following a C2 thru C7 fusion Dr. Smitherman did for me May, 2014.

If I could, I’d leave at least 10 stars! I needed a laminectomy. Dr. Smitherman has a delightful bedside manner! She discussed all the options and I did try another approach which did not work. I went back to Dr. Smitherman and scheduled surgery. It immediately solved a 35 year problem with constant and painful sciatica that landed me at times in a wheelchair. Haven’t had any problem since. If I need her services again, I will not walk, but run to her! I trust her completely, and she will be quite honest with you if surgery is your best option or not. Thank you, Dr. Smitherman for your care and skills!

Dr. Smitherman takes the time to explain your options. I liked it when she said I could have P/T, injections, or she could fix my problem, a herniated disk pressing on my spinal cord. After years of pain and suffering, she was true to her word, she fixed it. She has a wonderful bedside manner, she really seems to care, and nurses I talked with praised her as the best in her field in the area. I trust anything this doctor says, and I highly recommend her.

My visit was not a good experience. She asked questions, checked my reflexes and that was about it. I had a list of concerns, she kinda shrugged it off and we never got back to it. Her reccommendation for me “ Keep Moving”

I saw Dr smitherman about a cervical spinal injury that occurred at work. She had me see her ARNP twice before seeing her. I have moderate to severe cervical spinal foraminal stenosis per 2 MRI's. Dr. Smitherman told me that I do have a problem with my cervical spine and that I should go to the gym to work out to fix my spinal stenosis. I called my primary care physician. My primary care physician called me at 7 that night and told me that I had been dismissed by Dr smitherman . Shame on her

I had appt. with Dr.Smitherman on Aug.29 said she couldn`t help me. She said she would send my results of MRI to my physical therapist and suggest some new exercises. I called Dan Burns office in Ocean Shores and he still have not received anything from Dr. Smitherman. She also was going to send referral to John Miller MD in Aberdeen to have a nerve test done. She did not send any communication to Dr. Miller either. I called Dr. Miller and I do have an appt. with him.
