Last month my husband had hernia surgery. His Doctor was Dr. Shawn Bench. He is a very great surgeon with a great handshake. I believe ones handshake tells a lot about a person. I would suggest to all who are reading this that someday need surgery, do yourself a great favor. Let Dr. Bench do that surgery and go to Sharp Memorial hospital to have it done. Best of all, thank you, Dr. Bench, for your expertise, answers to all our questions, even my dumb ones.

This place wasted a month of my time. I went to the ER for a gallbladder attack and was referred to this surgeon because they said they took the ER medi-cal I was given. I called this surgeon’s office, told them my insurance situation again, and was told this was fine. I waited several weeks after that for an appointment and when I showed up was told, “oh I meant to call you, but was too busy. We actually don’t take your insurance and cannot see you.” Completely unprofessional and incompetent.

Dr. Shawn Bench and his team are the best. This was my very first time having surgery and I was very lucky that Dr. Bench was my surgeon. He made me feel at ease about having the surgery on my gallbladder. I knew right away I was in good hands with him and his team I wasn't even nervous. I have to honestly say thank you to him and his team for everything that they have done. It was such a pleasure. Even the follow up appointment was great. The office staff were friendly, the office was inviting

I would not recommend dr Shawn bench to anyone. He wants to get you into surgery and if it's not a normal recovery he doesn't seem to put effort in...or even care.

Dr. Bench acted childish when my dad who was expecting gallbladder surgery resented for asking to take things faster since everything was procrastinated. His office personnel lost file that were sent from the clinic twice. Came to appointment unprepared asking "what's going on guys?" Half an hour later they were able to find lost files of history but staff never admitted they lost it even though I heard when one said here it is. Wasted 2 months and money making different tests without reasoning

Very helpful in explaining the procedure I was about to endure. Wasn't very pleasant procedure but Dr. Shawn Bench didn't sugar-coat any part of the procedure, and boy was he spot on from start to finish. I appreciated the candor. Highly recommend.

This was a very complicated visit, many things that my Primary Care Dr. had missed were revealed to me by Dr. Bench and his staff, and the issues were extremely severe. They not only helped keep me calm and comforted during the time I was there, they kept me informed, they were incredibly responsive, and they made sure that any issue I had was attended to immediately. I have lived in San Diego for 11 years, this is by far the best medical attention I have received yet, by miles not yards.
