Dr. Sherling was born and raised in Alexandria, Virginia. She attended Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, VA, where she majored in chemistry and biology. She then moved to Norfolk, VA and graduated from Eastern Virginia Medical School in 1999. Dr. Sherling moved to Pittsburgh for her 3-year family practice internship and residency program at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center St. Margaret. Additionally, Dr. Sherling worked at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh and Magee-Women's Hospital, where she received additional training in Pediatrics and OB/GYN during her residency. She has attended many continuing medical education conferences since graduating from residency, and is an active member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and is board certified in Family Practice. Dr. Sherling has been practicing in the Northern Virginia area since 2002, and has been named among "America's Top Family Doctors" by the Consumer Research Council of America. She has extensive experience in caring for patients of all ages and helps coordinate the care of patients with multiple medical conditions, including diabetes, hypertension, depression, and various autoimmune conditions. Dr. Sherling has a particular interest in the connection between the mind and body and is constantly researching the best way to combine traditional medicine with natural treatments. She strongly believes that all patients have an inner ability to ultimately explain what is causing their symptoms, and with the help of an experienced healthcare provider, heal themselves. She strives to relate to her patients with grace, kindness, and compassion. She embraces the uniqueness of each individual patient and never misses an opportunity for her life experiences to teach her to become a better physician and person. Dr. Sherling lives in Fairfax with her husband, two sons, and daughter. When she is not working, she enjoys spending time with family and friends.
