Dr. Shannon O'Connor, MD

Dr. O'Connor is providing me with individualized care and is wonderful at listening to my needs. Whenever I have had a concern, she addresses it and is willing to take the time to educate me about my condition.

Quite simply, Dr. O'Connor thought to do a deeper dive on my blood tests when I seeked her out for a second opinion. Turns out, the first Oncologist misdiagnosed my cancer....Dr. O'Connor discovered the correct diagnosis and treatment.

Dr. O'Connor and team are wonderful--compassionate, brilliant, responsive. Before my first visit, Dr. O'Connor had reviewed nearly an entire year of test results, asked questions and answered my own, and explained everything clearly. I feel confident I'm great hands.

Dr. O’Connor and every person I have met with at Maryland Oncology and Hematology have been incredible. Dr. O’Connor took her time with me and answered all of my questions and made sure that I understood what to expect throughout my treatments. I did not feel rushed and like I was just a number. I was treated with respect and felt like Dr. O’Connor cared. I would not hesitate to recommend Dr. O’Connor to anyone needing an Oncologist. I also want to acknowledge all of the other staff I have had the pleasure of meeting at Maryland Oncology and Hematology. Being diagnosed with cancer is a scary, emotional and confusing time. It takes a special person to offer compassion, clarity, time, sincerity and encouragement each and every time you see them. I could not have asked for a better experience than I have had so far. I am still learning names but some of the amazing people I have met are Marina, Addie, Heather, Katie, Joan, Rose, Neiva, Amy and Danielle.

I have been seeing Dr. O'Connor since my breast cancer diagnosis in June of 2018. In addition to cancer, I was also diagnosed with CLL. She has always been very caring and is obviously very knowledgable. I had to go through 28 weeks of chemo, surgery, then radiation. I now live over 3 hours away, but still see Dr. O'Connor for follow ups. She is often to the point, but seemingly sets my mind at ease with her demeanor. I know she is very busy, but the one thing I would like to see is that she actually return phone calls or respond to e-mails when there is a concern. When her staff does so, things sometimes get lost in translation. In 3 years, I may have needed to speak with her a total of maybe only two or three times. Doctors always say, "if you need anything, call me". Problem is, you never get to actually speak to them. All in all, she is a great doctor and I am glad to have her as part of my team.

For a virtual visit, it was quite thorough! Dr. O’Connor is quite knowledgeable, understanding and helpful. She is very direct and to the point in her explanations, yet with a touch of TLC (which I, personally, appreciate)!

I saw Lisa for my monthly infusion appointment. Everyone one in this practice is wonderful!

This was an annual checkup to review my blood analysis on status of my multiple myeloma, which has been in remission for over 5 years. Dr. O'Connor is willing to discuss all items which could reflect on the illness and the side effects of the chemo. She is most knowledgeable and reassuring.

In my view, Dr. Shannon O'Connor is an excellent doctor. She is very knowledgeable in cancer research in general and cancer genetics in particular. Dr. O'Connor follows up the latest developments in treatment and diagnostics protocols.  She also has wonderful  intuition, a valuable gift, when the choice of the right direction to go is not obvious. Besides, Dr O'Connor is a nice person to communicate with. I always look forward to my next appointment with her because she gives me hope and optimism. The only thing I regret is that in my struggle with cancer I hadn't met her sooner than I actually did.

She took the time to explain things. Very pleasant and professional.

Just one visit in person, one zoom visit is not enought to evaluate her fairly yet.

From day one, Dr. O'Connor has been completely honest, caring, professional, personable & one of the main reasons for my success health wise, after breast cancer, chemo, radiation & reconstructive surgery.

Dr. O'Conner was excellent in treating my wife who is 81 with a history of ductal in-situ breast cancer many years ago but with a reappearance of a lump in the same beast. Dr. O'Conner is treating in a conservative manner in keeping with her age and severity of symptoms and following her at a reasonable schedule.

I was lucky to meet Dr O’Connor in the ER when I was hospitalized and diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder 7 years ago and she has managed my treatment ever since. I cannot recommend her enough! She is patient, informed of current treatment options, and responsive to my questions and concerns. I highly recommend her and the practice!

Dr. O'Connor is a focused, accessible, attentive, compassionate and highly able oncologist who provides care tailored to the needs of the patient. I highly recommend her.
