Dr. Wehrly is a Board-certified Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology. He is fellowship trained in Cornea and External Disease at Duke University and has been operating on eyes since 1992. In 2001, after seven years of military service in the Air Force, Dr. Wehrly joined Lake Eye Associates. He had served as Chief of Ophthalmology at MacDill AFB in Tampa, and as Chief of Ophthalmology and Director of Laser Eye Surgery at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Dr. Wehrly has performed more than 20,200 successful state-of-the-art cataract surgeries, 12,000 refractive surgeries, and thousands of other ocular and laser procedures. He was the first surgeon in Central Florida to perform LenSx® refractive laser surgery. Dr. Wehrly has extensive experience in multifocal implants and has implanted thousands of Toric® IOLs, including the new multifocal Symfony® extended range of vision lens. He also combines glaucoma and cataract surgeries, utilizing endocyclophotocoagulation (ECP) and iStent®, to reduce intraocular pressure and preserve vision in a single event. Dr. Wehrly has been a predominant figure in the Lake County community for 16 years, donating his time to the care of the indigent and contributing to several charities. He lives in Tavares with his wife and three children.
