My particular niche in the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine is prenatal diagnosis but I do a little bit of everything. The special thing about maternal-fetal medicine here at Duke is that the group is really cohesive in terms of getting along really well working well together and having a variety of interests within the division. In addition Duke also has a lot of other subspecialties that we work closely with and which have a lot of interest in pregnancy so were able to collaborate with them. In medical school I had a great interest in womens health and loved my OB/GYN rotation and residency. I very much admired the maternal fetal physicians in my residency program. I had great respect for what they did. They were able to take the difficult part of obstetrics and still enable women to have a positive birth experience. That really inspired me.
