Care Philosophy

It is a privilege to take care of patients with blood disorders.  Each patient is different, each blood disorder is different, and I believe treatment approaches should be tailored to the individual patient.  At the Weill Cornell Leukemia Program, we work as a team to recommend treatment options for each patient.  We have a number of novel therapeutic options for blood disorders, and we work closely with the scientists at the leukemia program to study each and every patients' disorder to tailor treatments.  Treatment for blood disorders is a unique journey, and I am privileged to be a part of the journey!

Dr. Lee is my talented physician for a blood-based disease. He received prestigious fellowships at NYP/Columbia U & Cornell Weil. He is always up to date, engaged, responsive, and involved in many clinical trials at Weil/Columbia. All his actions are vetted with his team - among the best in the world. I trust him absolutely. The other reviews - CML is highly treatable & indeed fantastic news in this world, where standard blood count ranges mean little, and treating too soon a mistake.

In July, 2016 my daughter was diagnosed with CML, a diagnosis which Dr. Lee assured her was "good news" Really, good news.......leukemia! In September after only two months of treatment my daughter was told by Doctor Lee that her next appointment would be at the end of December. At her December appointment all levels were below normal and yet she was told to come back in 3-4 weeks. Thankfully, she is being treated at another hospital now. At last, she has a competent treating physician.

I would never recommend Sangmin Lee, a dismissive and disrespectful person with an MD. The issues began with his nonchalant attitude towards informing me of my leukemia diagnosis. The nonchalance escalated to being dismissive of serious health problems and side effects. He dismissed my reports of being sick and spoke about his own struggles with having a cold. When my condition worsened, he did not seek alternative treatment. I don't know where I'd be had I not found a new doctor.
