I feel fortunate to be able to help patients with otologic disease in clinic and, when needed, with surgery. I aim to provide patients with a thorough understanding of their disease and the options available for treatment. Doing so allows us then to work as a team in making health care decisions that will be best aligned with each patient's goals and beliefs.

Biography

Samuel Paul Gubbels, M.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Otolaryngology. He recently joined the University of Colorado after a seven year period as a faculty member at the University of Wisconsin – Madison. Dr. Gubbels has a specialty clinical practice dedicated to managing hearing loss, balance disorders and diseases of the skull base.

      I am board certified in otolaryngology as well as neurotology. My practice is focused entirely on the medical and surgical management of diseases of the ear and skull base. I have particular interests cochlear implantation in children and adults, acoustic neuroma, otosclerosis, skull base tumors, facial nerve disorders, congenital ear disorders and the treatment of vertigo.

      I have fellowship training in Neurotology in addition to having completed residency training in Otolaryngology. As such I have expertise in all procedures involving the external, middle and inner ear as well as all surgical approaches of the lateral skull base. I have particular expertise in hearing preservation approaches for removal of acoustic neuromas such as the middle fossa craniotomy. In addition I have expertise in hearing preservation during cochlear implantation.
