This content was provided by Dr. Ramos II "Salvador D. Ramos II, D.O., serves as a laparoscopic bariatric and general surgeon in the Department of Surgery at Munroe Regional Medical Center. Born and raised in the Philippines, his family immigrated to Chicago, Illinois when he was 15 years old. He joined the US Army when he was 17 and served as a combat medic for 5 ½ years. He returned to Chicago and obtained his B.S. degrees in Medical Technology and Biology from the University of Illinois and Roosevelt University. He completed his General Surgery Residency at Wyckoff Heights Medical Center in New York, where he also served as chief resident. He then continued to be fellowship-trained in advanced minimally invasive surgery focused on laparoscopic bariatric surgery at Legacy Good Samaritan Medical Center in Portland, Oregon.Dr. S. Ramos has performed more than 1,500 bariatric surgeries, 95% of which were done laparoscopically. Bariatric procedures performed include gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy, gastric banding, duodenal switch, revisional and conversion bariatric surgeries. He aims to create a comprehensive bariatric program with the highest level of excellence and outstanding surgical outcome at MRMC. He served as the medical director of two bariatric programs, one of which he built from the ground up. Complete bariatric care strikes his interest since 2004.In addition to bariatric surgery, Dr. Ramos also performs other laparoscopic and open general surgeries such as colorectal surgeries, foregut surgeries including Laparoscopic Nissen Fundoplication and Laparoscopic Partial Gastrectomy with Roux-en-Y Reconstruction to treat severe GERD, reflux esophagitis and gastroparesis; any hernia repairs; removal of gallbladder and appendix; diagnostic laparoscopy; removal of skin lesions; and other abdominal surgeries. He has performed 2,000 endoscopic procedures including EGD with biopsy, dilation, polypectomy, stenting and control of bleeding; and colonoscopy for colon cancer screening/surveillance and polypectomy. He has provided surgical, endoscopic and clinical services to Ocala and the surrounding communities since 2012.Dr. Ramos is an active member of several medical societies. He is fluent in Tagalog and two other Philippine dialects. He enjoys relaxing at the beach and other outdoor activities. He is an avid sports fan. He also loves to play chess."

I recently had a ruptured gallbladder which was infected. Dr. Ramos did an excellent job as he was able to make minimal incisions while most other doctors might have had to make a larger on.. AWFUL!!!! Do not see this dr. He performed emergency ostomy surgery on a family member and discharged her from the hospital without the proper TPN leaving her to be severely malnourished and dehydrated. Left her staples in for almost 4 weeks and still wasn't the dr to remove them! This dr has no...Read More
