I have been interested in medicine since I was a boy and went with my father through the hospital where he worked as an anesthesiologist. I admired his work around the world caring for the poor in mission hospital four months a year for the last six years of his life. I was blessed to be able after my training to work in rural Ethiopia for two years and in China for 6 years which broadened my understanding of different cultures and how people differ in their health care needs. I find that people are often the most vulnerable mentally and spiritually when they are ill physically and this is a great opportunity to care for not only their physical but emotional and spiritual needs.
