This content was provided by Dr. Childs "Dr. Childs has practiced orthopedic spine surgery in Northern Virginia since 1993. After obtaining his undergraduate degree from Boston University in 1979, he attended Howard University College of Medicine and graduated in 1983. He completed his residency in orthopaedic surgery in 1989 at Howard University Hospital and then went on active duty in The United States Army where he served three years including a tour of duty in Saudi Arabia during Operation Desert Storm. Dr. Childs was the first spine surgeon at OrthoVirginia where he has been practicing since 1994. He is currently the chief of the Orthopaedics Spine Section at Inova Fairfax Hospital. He is Medical Co-Director of the Inova Spine Institute at Inova Fairfax Hospital, and also chairman of Spine and Osteobiologics committee, which has system-wide control of the products allowed into the Inova Health System for spine surgery. He has also been appointed Chairman of the State's Region II of the Workers Compensation Peer Review Board. Dr. Childs is board certified and was re-certified in 2001 and 2011, by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. He is a fellow in the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American College of Surgeons. He has been an active member in the North American Spine Society, the Old Dominion Medical Society, and the Fairfax Medical Society. He is also a member of the Society of Lateral Access Surgeons. Dr. Childs has particular interest and expertise in minimally invasive spinal surgery and has several patents pending in that area."

Fusion w/ Dr. Childs in 12/16. Booted out of hospital day after surgery despite pain/weakness on left side. After 7 months of worse pain, I finally insisted on follow up MRI and CT scans. Dr. Childs is wonderful, caring and a very knowledgeable surgeon. He was recommended by a friend, now me and 2 sisters have used him for spinal fusion. I think he is the best in his field. Highly recommend him. Marilyn Keaton
