After receiving his undergraduate degree from UCLA where he graduated Magna Cum Laude and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, Dr. Acheatel attended Harvard Law School, graduating Cum Laude. He practiced corporate litigation for two years and then decided he wanted to pursue a career in medicine. He received his medical degree from the UCLA School of Medicine and was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honorary Medical Society. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine and a fellowship in Cardiology at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles with an emphasis in Interventional Cardiology. Dr. Acheatel is Board Certified in Cardiovascular Disease and Internal Medicine. Dr. Acheatel is a member of the American College of Cardiology, American College of Physicians, American Medical Association, California Medical Association, and the American College of Legal Medicine. He has served as a member of the Commission on Federal Legislation and is a reviewer for the California Medical Board. Dr. Acheatel has held past positions as Chairman of the Departments of Medicine at both Palomar Medical Center and Pomerado Hospital as well as the Chairman of the Cardiology Committee at Palomar. He was instrumental in creating the MultiSpecialty Peer Review Committee for both hospitals and served for 2 years as the Chair of that committee at Pomerado Hospital while also serving as the Quality Management Committee Chairman at Pomerado Hospital. He has been the "Physician Champion" at Pomerado Hospital for Core Measure performance and this has won an award from the American Heart Association. From 2009-2011 Dr. Acheatel was the Chief of Staff Elect at Pomerado Hospital and now serves as Chief of Staff. Dr. Acheatel has been practicing Cardiology with Escondido Cardiology Associates since 1987. Escondido Cardiology has an active clinical research program where Dr. Acheatel serves as the Principal Investigator for a variety of studies investigating new clinical medical therapies.He lives in Poway with his wife Dr. Ingrid Scharpf and has two children pursuing their careers in New York and Philadelphia.
