Dr. Whitehead has extensive training and experience in sports medicine. He completed a sports medicine fellowship at The Ohio State University and is board certified in Primary Care Sports Medicine. He received additional training at Michigan State University and at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana through their sports medicine programs. His background also includes 12 years as a team physician for The Ohio State University football, lacrosse and ice hockey teams for the men as well as women's field hockey and softball teams. When the Columbus Chill was in town, he also was the head team physician for the organization. Dr. Whitehead has provided medical care at multiple mass events in and around the Columbus area including the Olympic Marathon Trials, Columbus Marathon, and Race for the Cure. He has also served as a consulting physician for the Columbus AAA Blue Jackets hockey program.
Throughout the years he has delivered multiple sports medicine lectures/talks at various forums on multiple sports medicine topics. He also contributed to the development of Max Sports Medicine where he practiced for six years while also sitting as a board member.
Presently, he continues to play an active role in sports medicine as the head team physician for Dublin City Schools where he has participated as team physician since 1995. He is also an active member of the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine.
Currently, Dr. Whitehead oversees our orthopedic urgent care where he evaluates and treats local athletes of all ages as well as any nonathletic musculoskeletal injury or problem. He also treats sports-related concussions, performs sports pre-participation physicals and pre-operative physicals.
