This content was provided by Dr. Sorrentino "Dr. Sorrentino was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY. He got his undergraduate degree from New York University and a Masters in Public Health at Wagner College. He graduated from Albany Medical College where he was and still is a member of Alpha Omega Alpha (Medical Honor Society). He interned and did his Internal Medicine residency at Duke University where he also remained to do his cardiology and electrophysiology fellowships. He was recruited to join the Duke Cardiovascular Faculty where was the director of the Pacemaker and ICD Service as well as cardiac electrophysiologist. MCG recruited him away from Duke after almost 20 years of service to build an EP program. He has been at MCG/GRU from 10 years as the Director of the Cardiac Electrophysiology Service. He has >25 years of experience in the evaluation and management of all heart rhythm and general cardiac disorders. The conditions he ---- most are syncope, fainting, sudden death risk assessment, palpitations, atrial fibrillation, flutter, supraventricular tachycardia, bradycardia and all types of heart block. He is considered a master of heart rhythm device implantations pacemakers, defibrillators and implanted loop monitors)and follow-up. Additionally, he has the uncommon expertise in laser removal of broken, abandoned or infected pacemaker/defibrillator wires or systems. He is also expert in the medical mangement of all types of abnormal heart rhythms, including atrial fibrillation or flutter, SVT (PAT), ectopy and ventricular tachycardia. The GRU/MCG EP program he oversees includes two additional faculty Electrophysiologists who have expertise in catheter ablation techniques and two dedicated state-of-the-art EP labs, one lab with magnetic robotic manipulation of catheters to minimize Xray exposure. In support of the EP doctors and labs are an assortment of highly trained, dedicated and experienced EP nurses, technicians, and physician extenders.
