Dr. Schaefer received his bachelor's degree in chemistry in 1980 from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, and his Master of Science degree in physiology in 1983 from Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio, where he received his medical degree in 1986. Schaefer's medical specialties include knee, hip and shoulder joint-replacement surgery; sports medicine and arthroscopy of the knee and shoulder; reconstructive surgery of the knee; and adult and pediatric fracture care. Schaefer is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He is a member of the American Medical Association, the Arthroscopy Association of North America, the Mid-America Orthopaedic Society, the National Orthopaedic Education Society and the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons. Dr. Schaefer joined Oaklawn's active staff in 2016.
