Dr. Robert Packer, MD
Dr. Packer has been practicing since 1966. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Michigan State University. He received his doctor of medicine degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine, in Detroit. He served his internship at Harper Hospital and did his residency in ophthalmology at Detroit Receiving Hospital and the prestigious Kresge Eye Institute. Dr. Packer is Board Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, member of the Michigan Ophthalmologic Society and numerous local and state medical societies. He is past president of the Muskegon County Medical Society and former Michigan State Medical Society Board of Directors. Dr. Packer was a pioneer in professional and peer review of physicians. In 1983 Dr. Packer helped establish the Physician Review Organization of Michigan (PROM). PROM was co-sponsored by the Michigan State Medical Society and Michigan Osteopathic Association. Since that time, PROM has become a separate organization. In 1985 Dr. Packer began volunteering for EyeCare America in an effort provide healthcare to the underserved and uninsured. In 2008 Dr. Packer was honored with a Lifetime Volunteer Award for his unending work with the underserved around Muskegon and the lakeshore area.
