While my staff and I strive to have all my patients be "happy" this is not necessarily an attainable goal. My practice involves many complex orthopaedic foot and ankle problems, many which have already had multiple previous failed surgeries elsewhere. Like any tertiary care practice, this can pose challenges. I am truthful with my patients and am not one to "sugar coat" a difficult situation

Beware this arrogant man. In 2012 I was seeking repair of a hammer toe. Dr Leland insisted on rebuilding my whole foot. After a year the foot had not healed, so, in 2013, he did the surgery again, with even more "hardware". Despite much time and expense spent on therapy, deep massage, etc. I have not regained normal use of my foot and still suffer pain in much of this extremity. I have sold my x-country skis. Obviously I do NOT recommend Dr. Leland. Note: If it ain't broke, don't let him fix it.
Dr Leland has now operated on both feet to correct severe bone displacement due to osteoarthritis, and I wouldn't even CONSIDER letting another physician near my feet. He is a terrific surgeon, extremely open to any questions (no matter how trivial) or concerns, and very clear, concise and honest. My outcomes, in his care, have been superb and I am so grateful for his work to restoring my mobility. His MA Carey is also top-notch and very kind. They are the best!

Terrible experience. Failed total ankle replacement, followed by second failed replacement in which he did exactly the same thing, even using the same implant which has a history of tilting out of place. The tilted implant broke through my ankle bone, leaving me with a hole in the front of the tibia and shredded bone on the side. I've now had a third surgery with a new doctor, different implant, and am doing well. Done with the disaster that took 1-1/2 years of my life I DO NOT recommend him.

Dr. Leland operated my right foot twice. The surgeries and recoveries went great. Dr. Leland is so nice, and very patient. He is excellent at explaining procedures, listens, and has an awesome bedside manor. He treats you with respect and genuinely cares about you and your recovery. I would highly recommend Dr. Leland and his staff to anyone who wants to return to their normal quality of life!

Eight years ago Dr. Leland replaced my ankle and I subsequently returned to my active lifestyle with no ankle issues. After this period I began to feel some discomfort in my ankle and Dr. Leland determined that a slight revision, replacing the plastic part between the major components, should be done. He just recently did that and as before was successful in this operation. Am back to all activities after about two weeks. This Doctor knows what he's doing. I recommend and trust him.

Dr. Leland did a great job on reconstructing my ankle. The unacceptable care came in the post-surgery visits. He seemed to be over-booked and not have the time to properly evaluate how well I was healing. I had infection in the ankle. He said he saw the x-rays on his phone and I should prepare for amputation. Went to another doctor that asked for a CAT scan. The new doctor determined that my ankle was in good enough condition that he would try to save it. I still have my foot and ankle.

I have never met with a more considerate and caring surgeon! After trying to solve my problem without surgery, I had surgery. My pain is totally resolved. I was unable to run for three years prior to surgery, and now I'm back to full activity. :)
    Colorado Springs, CO |
After evaluations by podiatrists and foot/ankle specialists across Colorado, I found Dr. Leland. He told it to me how it was. He didn't sugar coat my condition, nor did he give me false hope. My problem would not likely improve without surgery, and the surgical option that he could offer me did not come with any guarantees. He did tell me that the likelihood I would be better after the surgery was very good. He was right. 2 years later, and I'm back on the trails! Thanks Dr. Leland!

He does amazing ankle reconstruction and calf extensions. He is an up front doctor about everything and lays out all the options for you before surgery. His assistant Kerri works wonderful with him and helping appointment's go smoothly. If issues come up with surgery he will get you in right away to make sure things are alright and get fixed. He deals with people who had surgeries done wrong first time and makes it better than better but amazing.

Dr. Leland took time to examine all symptoms/issues and explore all alternatives. Have been extremely satisfied by the surgery that was performed 3 years ago in Denver and has healed really well. Due to extremely poor quality of doctors in Dallas I traveled for my post op appointments and continue regular followups to Dr. Leland in Denver. I was anxious about the surgery on both my legs but have been extremely happy with the outcome. I can now easily run 7 miles where even a mile was painful.
I'm thrilled that you're doing so well. It's very satisfying that you've been able to get back to your active lifestyle. Thanks for your kind comments.
    Denver, CO |
Poor communication, incomplete instructions, showed little interest, hardly looked or addressed the situation, spent hardly any time, did not order pro op exam
I'm sorry that you were unhappy with your experience. I strive to thoroughly educate each patient about their condition and am uncertain why you were left feeling that your concerns weren't adequately addressed
Dr. Leland performed a complex surgery on my ankle and I have had a great outcome. He was very thorough in explaining the procedure both pre and post-op and my expected recovery.
Thank you for your kind comments. With complex problems requiring surgery, communication is extremely important. I try my best to insure that my patients are well informed throughout the process.
