Dr. Corson's Care Philosophy

I am a firm believer in spending adequate time with patients to build a relationship, provide education, & allow them to take charge in managing their health. Although medications are needed to manage many medical problems, I emphasize the importance of lifestyle in helping optimize health and try and minimize the need for medication (vaccines, sleep hygiene, physical activity, smoking cessation, stress management, and dietary changes are discussed at nearly every visit). I am there to provide medical advice that is current and that meets the standard of care ; as well as to be part of a shared decision making team with patients.

I went in for an annual wellness visit and was later charged $80.00 out of pocket for a back consultation. Dr. Corson had asked about my general health, and I mentioned I was having some back pain. We talked about it for 4 or 5 minutes. I was not informed that this would cost me anything outside of the wellness visit. I contacted MillCreek Primary Care, but although the people I spoke with sympathized with the unethical outcome, they couldn't (or wouldn't) do anything about it.
Stephen, the lack of transparency in what things cost in the insurance based medical system is as frustrating to docs as it is to patients. What patients are charged is based on what is documented in the chart and which medical codes the charting supports. Depending on your insurance, you will only realize what the visit actually cost you weeks to months later. This is one reason I have left insurance based medicine. In future, be very clear with your doc that you ONLY want to get a physical
