Dr. Cole's Care Philosophy

With hand and upper extremity injuries and disorders, making a quick and accurate diagnosis is paramount to optimal recovery. We do our best to allow direct access with same day OrthoStat appointments. This allows the patient to bypass the emergency room or general practice urgent care facility and appoint directly with a subspecialist. This allows a focused pathway to diagnosis, targeted treatment and healing. Not every patient needs physical therapy, surgery or specialized testing or imaging. Plain X-rays and an experienced exam can frequently produce an accurate diagnosis. When these other things are needed, a subspecialist the ideal person to coordinate in order to limit out of pocket expenses to the patient and to streamline recovery. Achieving the final outcome is a team effort. The OrthoMemphis Hand Center was carefully designed to offer maximal interaction between the patient, the treating physician and two dedicated hand therapists.

Dr. Cole says...

Dr. Cole is a board certified orthopaedic surgeon with a certificate of added qualification in hand and upper extremity surgery. He treats problems from the shoulder to the fingertip. Dr. Cole is one of two hand and upper extremity surgeons who make themselves available for daily coverage of acute injuries (OrthoStat appointments). In addition to acute injuries, each day brings unique challenges for the physicians and therapists of the OrthoMemphis Hand Center. The Hand Center space was carefully designed to offer maximal interaction between the patient, the treating physician and two dedicated hand therapists.

We treat hand and upper extremity disorders beginning with the newborn and continuing throughout every stage of life. While orthopaedic surgery has become subspecialized, hand surgeons serve as the pediatric, sports medicine, total joint and trauma physicians for the hand and upper extremity. Many problems that we treat can be resolved without surgery.

Dr. Cole says...

In an order to promote faster healing and recovery, we perform several limited open techniques for common hand and upper extremity disorders. A few of these include:

Endoscopic carpal tunnel release

Mini TightRope suspensionplasty for thumb CMC or basal joint arthritis

Mini-open drill track grafting and screw placement for scaphoid nonunion

Tenex FAST procedure for lateral epicondylitis (tennis elbow)

Elbow and wrist arthroscopy
