Dr. Richard Rowe has more than 20 years of experience in neurosurgery - many of which occurred while serving as an active duty Neurosurgeon with the United States Navy; he is recognized as an expert in both complex spine disease and trauma as well as in complex tumors of the brain and skull base - skills he developed and perfected during both his naval service and as a faculty member at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS). After completing medical school and internship at Emory University in Atlanta, Dr. Rowe trained in neurosurgery at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta. During this time, he pioneered the use of computers for training neurosurgeons in anatomy, authoring two computer atlases in neuroanatomy. Upon completing his residency, he began his active duty at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD continuing his Naval service in both Okinawa, Japan and at the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, Virginia. Additionally, while in Japan, Dr. Rowe served on the staff of the commanding general of the Third Force Service Support Group, a US Marine Corps. Throughout his service he continued research into computer applications – specifically, developing virtual reality training tools for neurosurgery. In addition, Dr. Rowe completed a fellowship in skull base neurosurgery at UAMS under the direction of a world-renowned skull base pioneer, developing skills in removal of the most complex tumors of the brain and skull. He was invited to join the faculty at UAMS and served as an Associate Professor of Neurosurgery. In a poll by the Arkansas Times, Dr. Rowe was chosen by Arkansas physicians as one of the state's top neurosurgeons. He continued his academic research into computer applications while there and was appointed an adjunct faculty member to the College of Information Science and Applied Engineering at the University of Arkansas Little Rock. A native of Georgia, Dr. Rowe moved to Macon in 2009, where he began practicing at Georgia Neurosurgical Institute, performing both complex spine and complex cranial procedures at the Medical Center of Central Georgia, Navicent Health. I cannot say enough good things about this man. There is no one who I would trust more with my neurovascular health and the health of my family and friends. I would recommend him 1000 times over.
Samantha - Thank you for the review and for your recommendation of Dr. Rowe. He will be grateful that you took the time to share your experience!

Dr. Rowe is the best! There are no words to describe how much I appreciate him. He saved my son's ability to walk after his car accident. I was told by a friend to request him as his neurosurgeon after the accident. He was given very little chance to ever walk again. Dr. Rowe did surgery and he was sent to Shepherd's where he was rehabilitated. He is now able to walk and is back in college!
Wow! GNI is thankful that your son is back on track! I will share this review with Dr. Rowe; I know he will be grateful for the wonderful endorsement but even more grateful to hear how well one of his patients is doing. Jean Peterson, GNI Community Relations Director

We are still in the hospital, post tumor removal. We cannot say enough good things about Dr. Rowe! He was extremely competent. If we had to have an 8+ hour long surgery with my husbands brain open, Dr. Rowe is the man I want in there! Amazing job with a difficulty situation.

If you make an appointment, clear your day and wear a smile because the staff needs to lighten up.
Dr. Rowe has been my neurosurgeon since 2010. He's performed two brain surgeries so far (2010 & 2011) and has been great so far. The only complaint I have is during my brain surgery in 2011, I lost all my blood and they had to do a total blood transfusion and you would think that he would have told my mom about that but didn't! She found out from the nurse after the fact!
While his skill as a surgeon seemed to be competent, his beside manner and communication was abysmal. After almost a year of treatment, I was subject to disrespect by dr. Rowe and some of his staff. You will be treated like a subject and not a customer. Never had less than an hour wait past appointment times. Also had several appointments cancelled within minutes if actual appointment. This is after a 2 hour car ride and a day of lost wages due to taking off of work for appointment. 3x
