I had high hopes for Dr Matano but those hopes were quickly extinguished. My 73 year old father went in for surgery yesterday at 6am for a 8am procedure (standard) But being there is the Covid -19 issues going on he had to go alone. No one to advocate for him. Well the doctor opened him up and determined that the surgery wasnt necessary (understandable) so he closed him back up and he was sent to recovery. 12 HOURS LATER no one had told my father he never had the surgery. My mother had to tell him over the phone. Needless to say he was deflated since he thought this was going to be the solution he was looking for. Well fast forward another 12 hours and Dr Matano STILL HASNT BEEN IN TO SEE MY FATHER. I find this unacceptable and disgraceful. I understand people are busy but over 24 hours and you cant make a visit to inform your patient that you never did the surgery. It would be one thing if my father had his family there with him to advocate for him but visitors are not allowed and he

On February 27, 2018, I entered St Francis Hospital for removal of scar tissue on my left carotid artery. Since the surgery, I no longer have a normal voice. I have a barely audible, raspy whisper now. This makes my communication skills nearly impossible. I make a great effort to speak and lose oxygen as I try. The only way I can turn up the volume to be heard is to write and this letter is intended for him. Hear me! I was looking forward to returning home the following day, unfortunately this was not the case. I stopped breathing and was put on a ventilator for 2 weeks. I could not drink or eat for 5 months and placed on a feeding tube for nourishment. I was left with a paralyzed vocal cord accompanied by thick mucus and choking bouts. My family never received call backs from him. I was never told what exactly occurred during the surgery which led to this complication. I have now become rather reclusive. The importance of a voice and now lacking one has changed my life forever.

Do your research. Find another surgeon. If we had known we would of done the same. St. Francis Hospital, Roslyn, NY, can no longer be trusted for providing care for our loved ones.

The above left our family member to pass away by not providing the immediate medical intervention our family member needed. This unfortunately is a fact. Be mindful.

He's awesome. Maybe a little rash with his underlings, but that's because he's a perfectionist.

Simply the best. Has added years to both of our elderly parents lives; saving a leg, stents, carotid artery. Patient and understanding, compassionate, responsive and so skilled. He addresses all of your concerns and is never condescending. He will discuss until you understand. Has a very strong presence that makes you confident in his abilities. He is a perfectionist. Our family has Dr. Matano on a pedestal and will be forever grateful.
