Richard H. Koehler MD FACS specializes in Advanced Abdominal Laparoscopic Surgery, with 25 years of experience. He has an interest in laparoscopy for intraabdominal adhesion-related complications and for hernia surgery. Dr. Koehler has publications on laparoscopic surgery in peer-reviewed journals; he has lectured and taught extensively, nationally and internationally, on laparoscopic advanced hernia surgery and on laparoscopic adhesiolysis.
While actively practicing laparoscopic surgery, he is also doing novel research on the effectiveness of traditional surgical masks, as well as higher level face masks, in protecting both the patient and the surgeon. He has presented his findings at a European symposium on nanoparticles in surgical smoke, and has published the initial findings this year in the Journal of the International Society of Respiratory Protection. His hope is to develop the world's most efficient filtering facepiece respirator.
He holds 3 patents on respirator facemasks.
