Top Gun, Dr. Richard Gray Puget Sound Ortho.
Dr. Richard Gray performed anterior approach right hip replacement in March 2022. Without question this was the smoothest, least painful procedure Ive ever had. Was up walking the evening of the surgery. It is now mid July and feels is if I was born with my new hip, NO PAIN! Ive had several surgeries including both knee replacements. Bottom Line, Dr. Gray is "TOP GUN", best of the best! NONE BETTER!

Hip Replacement
Excellent! Dr Gray is thorough, knowledgeable, and caring. It's been 6 weeks since my 2nd hip replacement (he also did my 1st three years ago), and I'm completely back to normal, and have been for several weeks. I credit his skill to my speedy recovery and minimal pain experience (I didn't need opioids). His SwiftPath approach of "movement is medicine" truly works!

Hip Replacement
Dr Gray, made me feel very comfortable from the very first visit through my 6 week replacement follow-up. We came up with a plan that included cortisone injections to start, and once that became ineffective, we talked about surgery, without him pushing for it. Once I made the decision, he spent time going over all the pros and cons, and took time to be sure me and my Partner were satisfied with how the procedure works and expected results. I appreciate that Dr Gray and his staff are will to take the time to answer any question, regardless of how minor it seems.

Dr Gray replaced my left hip joint on Sept 22 using a "modified anterior approach" and did not have to cut/reattach muscle to get it done. He said it would be a day surgery and it was: in surgery by 9AM and back home with an ice pack on my hip by 3PM, out of pain! Both he and his PA gave very specific instructions on range of movement and icing during early recovery days and recommended just walking as the exercise of choice. Outside I used just Trekking poles for stability. By the post-op appt with Sara I was walking reasonably well (Home Depot & Costco) and by the 6 week follow-up with Dr Gray 10k steps is not a problem. If I need to have the right hip replaced I will not wait in pain to have him do it! I would highly recommend Dr Gray!

I would tell you more about the visit if he would have ever kept my appointments. I made my first appointment, completed all necessary paperwork online, received confirmation of my appointment, then waited for the day. The morning of the appointment, after I had already taken time off work to go, I received a call from Dr. Gray's office asking if I could come in 3 hours earlier than scheduled appointment time because Dr. Gray wanted to leave early. I explained I could not and was told they would need to reschedule my appointment. So, I rescheduled and waited another 4 weeks with a painful knee. Received confirmation again the night before appointment. Took time off work AGAIN, only to receive a phone call 3 hours before my appointment telling me that if I couldn't come in early, they would have to reschedule my appointment AGAIN. Nope. I will find another doctor. Very unprofessional and uncaring.

Dr. Gray is an excellent surgeon with a stellar reputation. He's the knee surgeon to whom other knee surgeons go when they need their knees replaced. He did a great job on my knee. Thank you, Dr. Gray.

Very nice doctor. I was very perplexed at the end of the visit. He left abruptly leaving me to wonder why. Our visit went very well. So I was a bit confused at this. And I wasn’t sure if a nurse was coming in after for more instructions because they usually do he said they would get a hold of me for an MRI. I was just confused at they end and feeling bad because I didn’t know why he just left so quick.

I worked with Dr. Gray for a hip replacement. We decided to do the procedure at the Lakewood Surgery Center vs. a hospital. I was home within 4 hours same day and experienced very little pain. In fact I took a total of 4 prescription pain pills during recovery in the first week. I am normally very quick to take a pain pill. I worked with a different surgeon for bi-lateral knees replacements and was on pain meds for weeks. Hips are much easier than needs but what a difference! His bedside manner is also great in comparison to other surgeons I have met over the years. I am 53 years old and feel a lot better than I did pre-surgery. I would highly recommend Dr. Gray.

I Could not of had a better experience . I was very lucky I found him. I had very little pain the first week and only discomfort the next few weeks. I have been highly recommending Dr Gray to everyone who will listen so they to can pass on his great work. Physical therapy was only a few weeks and painless only minor discomfort. I was walking with out a walker or cane right after the start of physical therapy. I can’t recommend Dr Gray highly enough even down to making the scar go to the side of the knee cap so when all healing is done you don’t have to kneel the scar and all of his staff was Really terrific.

You can tell he & his team, which includes the patient, work well together! Dr. Gray is really a good guy.
