Care Philosophy

This content was provided by Dr. Fessler "The evolution I've seen in spine surgery has been nothing short of spectacular. Our results, in general, have improved by using minimally invasive technique - compared to using our open surgical techniques that we used 20 years ago. For example, when I did open surgery, my clinic was filled with patients who had what we called failed back syndrome. They had surgery, it was theoretically successful, but they didn't feel good. They hurt just as much. I don't have a clinic like that anymore. By and large, my patients in clinic are very happy. That means we're doing a better job. One of the most pleasant and rewarding parts of being a neurosurgeon is to be able to sit down with someone who has a real problem, find out what that problem is, show them how it can be helped, show them their X-rays, show them why their X-rays match what their problem is, and why that gives them a very good chance of getting an excellent result with surgery."

All of my encounters with Dr. Fessler and his staff have been professional and informative. I found that he was very reassuring when discussing my surgery, He has a great bedside manner. My surgery went well, and I can barely see my neck incision.

Horrible Laminectomy L4/5 at Northwestern - 8.28.09 and I had the worst possible outcome. With spinal canal tear (blood patched in surgery ) I was sent to recovery without a catheter - offered a bedpan or to pee that bed due th need to lie flat due to the tear. Never had post-surgery CT for bad...Read More

I didn't care for this Dr at all, he seems arrogant and talks down to his patients. My insurance made me see him & he tried to contradict the few Dr's I've seen previously, 1 Dr. who is a top 10 specialist in the US. Then he completed the papers for my insurance saying I was faking vertigo, kind of...Read More
