Dr. Duncan's Care Philosophy

My goal is to treat my patients as I would my family. Most spinal disorders can be treated nonsurgically, and since the majority of spine surgery is elective, I believe surgery is a last resort. I strive to provide you as much information as possible to ensure that you make an informed decision on your treatment options. I am particularly interested in minimally invasive techniques. Utilization of the latest lighting, magnification and imaging technology allows spinal surgery procedures to be done with less tissue disruption, less pain and a faster recovery. In addition, I was the first physician in the Tri-Cities to perform outpatient spinal surgery and many of my cases are done at The Mountain Empire Surgical Center. I am a certified physician under the back pain recognition program recognized by the National Committee for Quality Assurance.

Wise, VA |
The experience that I had with this physician and his nurse practitioner was a nightmare. The FNP was arrogant, and so was the physician. I explained to the FNP that I was having severe pain in my back, yet she had me bend over and slowly proceeded to press on my back, the all of a sudden she took both hands and stabbed me in the lower back creating unbearable pain. I have bulging disc and herniated disc, yet this physician tells me he cannot see any reason for pain. I would never go here again
Went for help with my back told me to suck up, We all have back pain . All I got was no help and a bill.

Dr. Duncan is an excell no communicator, compassionate and wise. He doesn't rush into decisions about surgery, and he presents all options clearly. I'm also very impressed by all the staff and the atmosphere at his office. They run a very efficient practice that respects patients' time and also shows warm regard for patients.

Dr. Duncan listened to my problems and provided a thorough assessment. He suggested safe, helpful, non-invasive treatment and therapy that has taken away almost all my pain and given me much more mobility. He really cares about his patients.

Dr Duncan removed a Synovial Cyst of lumbar spine on 12-28-15. The Surgery went well. I am well pleased with the outcome.
in Elizabethton, TN |
I like the fact he is conservative and explained exactly what he would be involved with my surgery and recovery.
in Jonesborough, TN |
Dr. Duncan spent adequate time talking and examining my spine after a major fall on the stairs. I never felt rushed, and he showed genuine care about my well being. I liked that he wasn't quick to suggest surgery but gave me adequate time to heal. I also had some questions which he was willing to listen and provide answers.

I am a physician. I appreciated Dr.Duncan's commitment to his thoughtful and appropriate philosophical approach to patient care by using surgery as a last resort as he states in his testimony. After carefully listening and thinking about me, he spelled out clear treatment options and, together, we devised a thoughtful strategy that has already helped me tremendously. I could not ask for anything more and hope I handle my patients as well as he has taken care of me.
in Johnson City, Tennessee |
I saw Dr. Duncan a whole 4 mins during my visit all he could say was he wasn't able to help.
