This experience was awful. I’ve had hip issues for years & I’m only 20. My hip surgeon noticed how bad my back pain was getting as well as an enlarged thoracic vertebrae. I’m in school going into the healthcare field so many of my professors are practicing doctors. Each one told me I needed to see a doctor because something was definitely wrong. This doctor was extremely dismissive the minute he read my chart and saw I was on Work comp. He read the conclusions from a 2.5 year old MRI, never viewed the MRI or even acknowledged that this issue has developed over time and wasn’t occurring back then. Handed me a copy of the MRI results that I already brought to them and told me to keep looking at that because it says I’m fine. Told me I didn’t need a surgery or to see him again and walked out the door. I never wanted surgery I just want to know what’s wrong with me and to be heard. My entire back goes numb along with my legs. Waste of time meeting with him and his extremely rude demeanor.

It kept me from sleeping or continuing my degree (this started at age 19 in the military) and I could not function. I went back there as no other practice would even consider seeing me because I was so young (by then 22). It didn't take long for him to change his mind - I needed surgery. 5 months ago he did the surgery and my life changed. I have since returned to college, gotten a job, and now I can walk unassisted, not take pain meds, and I can feel my fingers.

I saw Dr. Distefano when I’d been in over 7 years of pain and tried a lot of different methods for dealing with it. Even though he didn’t have any good suggestions for me, that doesn’t mean that he couldn’t have learned from my experiences and perhaps helped another patient in the future better because of listening to my story (which he didn't do). He didn't want to see my DMX, discuss the PRP injections I'd had, or discuss Tissue Nanotransfection. He could have been so much better than he was.

I found Dr. DiStefano to be very caring, and complete when explaining my problem. He outlined my options which I will be pursuing. Since I had to travel an hour to visit SOS he even reviewed my MRI with me on the same day it was completed.

I feel that Dr. DiStefano is a kind, caring, genuine person. He carefully explained my surgical options to me and suggested that I go with the less invasive one. I agreed! Later, at the hospital, immediately before the surgery, he went over the procedure with me again. His smile and calm demeanor made me feel more at ease. Even the follow-up visit with him was good. And the surgery was a success!

I have been going to SOS for 5 years and have quite the long record in their system. I saw this Dr. for the first time this week and left the office in tears. I'm young but have some pretty bad problems with my back including a failed surgery that left me with nerve damage. I felt as though he never bothered to look at my file, doubted everything I said, and rushed me out. I don't know if I caught him on a bad day or what, but my impression was that he needs to work on his empathy and compassion

My husband has had three surgeries by Dr. DiStefano on his back and has done well under Dr. DiStefano's care. That is the reason I also chose to request Dr. DiStefano when my GP suggested I see a back specialist. It was very helpful that I already knew Dr. DiStefano and knew the quality of his care. He was very concerned and made me feel confident he would find out the problems and work to help me feel better. He explained my test results very clearly

I can't say enough good things about Dr DiStefano! I am 66 years of age and also transgender. The intersectionality of those two things causes many health care providers to almost dismiss me when I talk and ask questions. (They never behaved in that manner before.) Dr DiStefano was most respectful and engaging. He looked at me when I talked and answered all questions. I appreciate his professional demeanor very much. Tim McCoy
